The unique characteristics of Venice and its lagoon (northern Italy)
represent a special challenge for environmental management. This highly developed territory is an area with high risk of natural and non-natural hazards: flooding (high tides), water and atmospheric pollution, subsidence and even the risks involved with projects aimed at reducing environmental hazards. Environment management requires a deep knowledge of the territory and many researches have indeed been carried out in the area during the last years. "Sistema Lagunare Veneziano" (SLV) is one of them. An important aspect of this project is an emphasis on the availability of existing information and scientific data and the creation of a database accessible by Internet. The database has been structured into three different modules: a data section, a bibliographic section and a modeling section. The data section contains most of the results of the studies carried out within SVL project. The bibliographic section contains references to papers and reports funded by the project. The modeling section contains the codes of models produced for the project and their most relevant results. The site address is
here.
