Catalogue of bibliographical information on floods, debris flows and landslides in Valtellina and Valchiavenna, Lombardy Region, Northern Italy

Following the catastrophic inundations of July 1987 in Valtellina, Mario Govi and Ornella Turitto, of the CNR-IRPI in Torino, completed a detailed and systematic bibliographical analysis of the available literature on landslides and floods for the Valtellina and Chiavenna valleys, in Lombardy Region (northern Italy). The Authors looked at books and reports, as well as at hundreds of newspaper articles, searching for any relevant information on past landslides, flood, debris flows or other inundation events occurred in the study area. Care was taken in collecting information on the type and extent of damage caused by catastrophic events. The results is a unique database of historical information on geo-hydrological catastrophes occurred in the Sondrio Province, Lombardy Region.

The project was carried out in the framework of the CNR-SACIT (1988-89) and the CNR-GIAST (1990-92) research projects.
